ABOUT

Samford's Ministry Training Institute exists to equip Christians to be leaders in their churches and communities through theological education and practical ministry training.

Samford’s Ministry Training Institute is a non-degree program that equips ministers and lay leaders for service in God's Kingdom through quality biblical, theological and practical ministry education.  We offer an array of educational opportunities including a variety of online certificates and extension courses administered all over the southeast. Each course, seminar or workshop is biblically based and administered with the highest quality and integrity. Highly qualified and experienced instructors lead each educational opportunity.

 

The Diploma in Biblical Studies, Advanced Diploma and Biblical Studies Diploma of Distinction are offered throughout 33 extension centers across the southeast.  Our curriculum includes 24 standardized courses.  A student is awarded the Diploma in Biblical Studies after completing 8 courses, awarded the Advanced Diploma after completing 16 courses and Diploma of Distinction after completing 24 courses.   The cost is $50 per course.  Students who register using our online registration system will not be subject to the $10 processing fee.

Baptist Doctrines

Using “The Baptist Faith and Message” as a guide, students will deepen their knowledge of historic Baptist beliefs and their relevance to the Church today. Students will also learn more about the uniqueness of Baptist polity among the landscape of denominationalism.

ZMTI 115 Spiritual Disciplines

This course will assist the student in pursuing intimacy with and conformity to Jesus Christ through personal spiritual disciplines such as Bible intake, prayer, fasting, silence and solitude, and journaling. The student will learn valuable disciplines that will greatly enhance their walk with God.

INSTRUCTORS

 

Paul Davis

Paul Davis serves as Director for the Cleveland Extension Site of Samford University's Ministry Training Institute (MTI). Paul was born and raised in Cleveland.  He and his family have attended Westwood since he was five years old. After 17 years of working in a corporate job in the paper & packaging industry and in real estate, he was called to join the ministry team at Westwood in 2004. After serving as Minister of Education for four years, he moved into an executive pastor’s role with responsibilities in administration and educational ministries.  He now continues in this role as the Associate Pastor. 

He is a graduate of Lee University and completed his MBA in Christian Ministry at Bryan College.  He will begin his doctoral studies at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary this fall.  Paul and his wife Connie have two canine sidekicks named Spencer and Baxter.

Phil Taylor

Rev. Phil Taylor came to the CrossNet Baptist Network (Bradley Baptist Association) as Lead Mission Strategist (Director of Missions) on August 9, 1999.  He is President of Ocoee Outreach. Phil is married to Peggy Taylor.  Phil is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia

 

Phil is a graduate of University of the Cumberland’s class of 1982, Williamsburg, Kentucky and received his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1985.  Before coming to CrossNet Baptist Network, he served as a senior pastor for fourteen years in three Southern Baptist Convention churches in Ohio and Virginia. 

 

In addition to serving the churches in CrossNet Baptist Network he serves as Church Revitalization Specialist for Tennessee Baptist Convention.
